Call for Art in the new Illini Hall Common Room

Illini Common Room Rendering

A major new artwork is sought for the Mathematics and Statistics Common Room at the University of Illinois. The common room will be 2,000 SF, much of it two-story, with dramatic views of the rest of campus, and will be housed in the new Illini Hall which is currently being built in Champaign, Illinois. This room will be a multipurpose gathering space for the faculty and graduate students of the Departments of Mathematics and Statistics and will serve as both the social and intellectual hearts of these two departments.

As mathematics and statistics are both a science and an art, we seek art with a corresponding scientific component. Appropriate works include art whose creation follows directly from mathematical or statistical ideas, or inspiring art which is strongly suggestive of these fields. We welcome applications from individual artists as well as teams of artists, including possible collaborations with mathematical scientists.
